Ardentiella sp "Black Hole"

Ardentiella sp “Black Hole” is a striking species characterised by its uniform, jet-black colouration and sleek, matte plates that give it a dark, void-like appearance. A visually impressive and highly sought-after ardentiella species.

These isopods are captive-bred (CB).

Care Information

  • Size: Mixed sizes
  • Diet: Rotting hardwood, leaf litter (oak, beech, maple, chestnut, Asian species), and lichen form the staple diet. Supplement regularly with calcium (cuttlefish bone, limestone, or powdered calcium carbonate), protein-rich treats (fish flakes, shrimp pellets) and vegetables (squash, carrot, zucchini, or sweet potato).
  • Temperature: 22–28 °C.
  • Humidity: 80–90%. Loves humid conditions in the air but not wet soil. Maintain a moist/dry gradient: one side humid with moss or damp substrate, the other drier. Consider using a sponge on the top of the tub to increase air humidity.
  • Ventilation: Provide good cross-ventilation to prevent stagnation, while keeping humidity stable.
  • Substrate: Substrate minimum ~5cm deep mix, organic soil, flake soil, rotting wood, sphagnum moss, and leaf litter. This species likes to dig. Add cork bark and hardwood pieces for shelter.
  • Enclosure: 11L tub is recommended for ardentiella. This gives them space to climb.

Isopods are shipped securely in ventilated tubs with damp moss for safe travel.
