Phyllium elegans "Nanga Nanga" Nymphs

Phyllium elegans "Nanga Nanga" is a beautiful leaf insect species native to the forests surrounding Nanga Nanga in Central Sulawesi, Indonesia.

This is one of my favourite leaf insect species to keep! The variety of colours these insects can develop is truly stunning, with individuals ranging from vibrant greens to rich browns and, on rare occasions, striking reddish tones.

The nymphs available are from a parthenogenetic culture, meaning they are all female. The nymphs you will receive will all be green (as younger nymphs all turn green first), with some individuals gradually developing the brown or reddish colouration as they mature.

These nymphs are captive-bred (CB).

Care Information

  • Size: L2/L3 nymphs (~20mm in length)
  • Foodplant: Feeding well on bramble
  • Temperature: 20–26 °C. Room temperature is usually fine
  • Humidity: 70–80% – mist enclosure daily or every other day
  • Enclosure: Minimum 30 × 30 × 45 cm (W*L*H). Extra height preferred for moulting and climbing. This species also prefers a glass enclosure rather than a netted one.

Nymphs are carefully packed in a ventilated tub with a paper towel base and fresh food plant for safe travel.
