Cubaris sp "Happy Nun"

Native to Thailand, Cubaris sp “Happy Nun” is a beautiful and prolific tropical isopod whose true colouration is best appreciated in person. At first glance, its rounded body may appear uniformly grey, but under the right light the glossy exoskeleton reveals a reflective, almost metallic sheen. Clean white skirts and cheek patches frame the body, while some individuals develop subtle bronze, reddish-brown or lighter dorsal markings between the darker plates. This natural variation gives established colonies plenty of visual interest and makes "Happy Nun" far more striking than photographs often suggest.

The origin of the name “Happy Nun” is not clearly documented, but it may refer to the species’ pale facial edges and dark body, which loosely resemble the contrasting colours of a traditional nun’s habit
