A curated gallery of isopods I’ve kept over the years, featuring collector favourites, rare and unusual species, and several that were first introduced to the UK at the time.
Isopods belong to the order Isopoda, which encompasses an extraordinary diversity of terrestrial species. Their taxonomy continues to evolve, and many animals in the hobby are still traded under provisional names. The Xoticbugs collection includes genera such as Ardentiella, Armadillidium, Cubaris, Filipinodillo, Porcellio and Troglodillo, alongside several undescribed and less commonly kept groups — each beautiful in their own right. Beyond this, the world of isopods also includes an exciting array of morphs, offering even more variety in colour and pattern. Due to this huge diversity, there is certainly an isopod species for everyone.
