Species profile

Cubaris sp "Mercury"

Cubaris sp “Mercury” is an exceptionally rare Asian isopod with a warm, unusual colour palette that sets it apart from most other Cubaris. They showcase rich orange to amber tones across the head, skirts and outer body, blending into smoky purple-brown through the centre of the back. Under stronger light, the darker areas can take on a plum or bronze cast. It is an exceptionally rare Asian isopod that has only recently begun appearing in Western collections.

Mercury is so new to the hobby that even its exact origin and formal identity remain unclear. It is still circulated simply as Cubaris sp “Mercury”, with breeder sources describing it as a very rare Asian species rather than assigning a confirmed locality or scientific name
